For the installation of the Nuki Box, expert knowledge in the field of electrical engineering is required. Additionally, we strongly recommend reading the manual of the existing locking system of the door in advance. If necessary, contact the property management / facility management in order to avoid any warranty problems.
Installation requirements
The Nuki Box is an electronically controlled potential-free relay that replaces various switches and can be operated remotely. You can use the Nuki Box to unlock any electronically controlled locking systems, such as the entrances to residential buildings or garages.
Make sure that the following installation requirements are met for installing and using the Nuki Box:
Electronically controlled locking system
The box is connected in parallel to the already existing electronically controlled locking system. In order to install the Nuki Box, it is therefore mandatory that your door is already equipped with an electronically controlled locking system. This is the basic requirement for the installation of the Nuki Box.
Power supply
In order to install the Nuki Box a power supply (8-36V AC/DC) is required. The Nuki Box has to be connected to power with the help of a suiting power supply unit.
GSM reception
The Nuki Box is delivered including an eSIM. With the help of this eSIM the Nuki Box connects to the Nuki servers. So the installation of the Nuki Box is only possible at locations where 2G GSM reception is guaranteed.
Indoor usage
The device is only suitable for use in dry interior spaces. The operation temperature for the Nuki Box is in the range of 10-40°C.
Note: Do not use the Nuki Box in combination with fire doors, escape doors or other doors with special requirements!
Assembly
- Check the conditions according to the installation requirements and make sure that the power supply and 2G GSM reception are guaranteed on site.
- Before you start the installation of your Nuki Box, take a photo of the wiring of your electronically controlled locking system.
- Make a note of the Nuki Box ID, which you can find on the top of the device. You will need this ID to set up your Nuki Box.
- Depending on the locking system you have, connect either the NO-contact (Green-White and White) or the NC-contact (Green-White and Green) of the Nuki Box with the opening mechanism of the door.
- The Nuki Box has to be connected to power with the help of a suiting power supply unit (8-36 Volts AC/DC).
- As soon as the Nuki Box is connected correctly, the booting process of the device will start. The LED flashes red in intervals of one second. This process takes about 30 seconds.
- As soon as the Nuki Box is connected to the Nuki servers the LED will light up green. This may take a few minutes depending on the GSM signal quality. As soon as the LED lights up green, proceed with the setup of your Nuki Box.

Manage Nuki Box
The Nuki Box management account is a Nuki web account that allows you to control your Nuki Box and manage permissions.
Note on creating a Box account:
It is not possible to use an existing Nuki web account when installing a new Nuki Box. Create a new account with a unique email address for your Nuki Box management account. All other Nuki device types (Smart Lock, Smart Door and Opener) can be added to your Nuki Web management account afterwards as well.
In the menu (left) you will find all information about your devices as well as several options to manage your Nuki Box.
Note on Adresses:
To manage different boxes at one location, add addresses to your Nuki Box management account. For example, if a building has two doors, each equipped with a Nuki Box, create an address for the building and add both boxes to the address. This way you have the possibility to manage all boxes at the same location together. The Nuki Box management account is linked to you as owner or administrator of the Nuki Box.
Add and manage users
To create a Smart Lock for a user, select "Addresses" > "Residential unit".
By creating a Smart Lock for a Nuki Box, an invitation code is generated that you can share with a person who should get access to the building.
After entering the invitation code in the Nuki App and activating the Nuki Web account, the person has the possibility to open the door and authorize family and friends to open the door as well via the Nuki App or a Nuki Fob. Per Smart Lock, a user authorized by you can create 100 permissions for friends and family.
However, users have no possibility to manage the Nuki Box, change settings or track activity log entries to other Smart Locks of the Nuki Box. Only those activity log entries of own authorizations can be seen by the user.
If you remove the "Residential unit", all permissions of the residential unit will be deleted. This way you can make sure that all access permissions of this residential unit are deactivated after a person has moved out, for example.
Please note that activity log entries of users are displayed anonymously to comply with data protection regulations.
