Examples for installing the Door Sensor

Contents of this article are valid for:
  • Door Sensor
  • Smart Lock 3.0 and newer

The Door Sensor is suitable for plastic and wooden doors. Sliding doors and doors made of metal are not supported, as they influence the measurement of the magnetic field strength. The Door Sensor offers variable mounting options on the door and the door frame. This way external influences can be reduced, increasing reliability.
With an ideal positioning you can achieve highest reliability of the door status detection. Depending on your door, the optimal position for sensor and magnet differs:

Option A - The door and the door frame are at the same level

Door Sensor Mounting Example A1: If the door and the frame are at the same level, the Door Sensor and the Magnet can be applied parrallel on the top of the door
Door Sensor Mounting Example A2: If the door and the frame are at the same level, the Door Sensor and the Magnet can be applied parrallel on the side of the door

If the door and the frame are at the same level, the magnet must be mounted parallel to the Nuki Door Sensor on the inside of the door. The distance between sensor and magnet must be in the range of 0.5 cm and 3 cm.

Option B - The door and the door frame are not at the same level

Door Sensor Mounting Example B1: If the door and the frame are not at the same level, the Door Sensor can be applied on the door and the Magnet on the edge of the door (for example at the side of the door)
Door Sensor Mounting Example B2: If the door and the frame are not at the same level, the Door Sensor can be applied on the door and the Magnet on the edge of the door (for example at the top of the door)

If the door and the door frame are not on the same level, position the magnet on the edge of the door at a 90° angle to the sensor.
The distance between magnet and sensor should be between 0.5 and 3 cm for this mounting option as well.

Note:

The Smart Lock 1.0 and 2.0 are not compatible with the Door Sensor. However, the Smart Lock 2.0 has a built-in door sensor (beta). Learn more about the installation of the built-in door sensor of the Smart Lock 2.0.
