Installation & setup of the Door Sensor

This article concerns:
  • Door Sensor
  • Smart Lock 3.0 and newer

The Door Sensor consists of a magnet and a sensor. You simply mount both on the inside of the door: the sensor on the door frame, the magnet directly on the door. The Nuki app guides you through the activation and calibration of the Door Sensor.

Before installation

The Door Sensor consists of a magnet and a sensor. Please pay particular attention to their positioning during installation.

  • Preparation: Make sure that the surface on which the Door Sensor is to be mounted is flat and clean. Clean it with rubbing alcohol if necessary.
  • Connect the Door Sensor: Open the Nuki app and go to the main menu (top left, three yellow bars). Select “Manage devices” > "Accessories" > “Nuki Door Sensor”.
Remove the battery protection strip if necessary. Now press the tamper button on the back of your Door Sensor for 10 seconds. As soon as the LED lights up, release the button. Now simply follow the instructions in the Nuki app.

Installation & setup

Installation notes:
  • Pay attention to the mark (notch) on the sensor. It must face the magnet.
  • Also, pay attention to the bottom edges: The edge under the sensor mark must be at the same height as the bottom edge of the magnet.
  • The distance between the Door Sensor and the magnet should always be between 0.5 cm and 3 cm.
  • Examples for installing the Door Sensor.

Mounting steps:

  1. Attach the sensor: The sensor and magnet are mounted on the side of the door on which you open it and not in the area of the door hinges. Stick the sensor to the door frame.
  2. Attach the magnet: The enclosed magnet serves as a counterpart to the sensor. Stick it directly to the inside of the door.
  3. Calibration: Now calibrate the Door Sensor using the Nuki app. The Door Sensor measures the magnetic field strength of the magnet when the door is closed, ajar and open. Only move the door slowly during the individual calibration steps. This is how the Door Sensor detects the change in magnetic field strength.
