Extended Actions for Auto Unlock

In the expert settings you can adapt Auto Unlock even further according to your individual needs. Among other things, you can define actions your Smart Lock, Smart Door or Opener should perform on certain triggers: when you exit or enter the Geofence or if your device is found or not found.

Which action should Nuki execute when you leave the geofence?

The operating system of your smartphone informs the Nuki App, when you are leaving the geofence. The Nuki App then can trigger an action.

Use case for “Geofence exit”

By default, Nuki does not perform any action when you leave your home. However, Nuki can also lock your door automatically, for example. Some users choose this setting for additional security.

Geofence exit: "Lock"

The radius of the geofence is at least 100 m. When leaving the geofence, you are no longer within Bluetooth range to your Nuki device. To use this setting, your Nuki device has to be available online.

Which action should Nuki execute when you enter the geofence?

Nuki can control your door when you enter the geofence.
The operating system of your smartphone informs the Nuki App, when you are entering the geofence. The Nuki App can trigger an action.

The default setting is 'no action', but you can select the action you prefer.

Use cases for “Geofence enter”

Shorten locking process for doors with knob outside

Your door has a knob as door fitting on the outside? Then it can be convenient if Nuki unlocks the door earlier and opens it when you arrive.
If you choose the action "Unlock", Nuki unlocks the door when you have just entered the geofence. Because of the knob on the outside of the door, the door is still closed and secure.
When you finally reach your home, Nuki only pulls the latch. Auto Unlock opens the door in a flash.

House with several doors

You have a house with several doors with a “handle” as door fitting. All doors are equipped with a Nuki device. You want all doors to be unlocked when you come home. No matter through which door you enter your home.

• Device found: "No action"

Using the Nuki Opener to open the garage door

You use the Nuki Opener for your driveway or garage door. There is no Bluetooth connection to the Opener because the distance is too far. But you want the gate to open when you arrive.

• Device found: "No action"

The radius of the geofence is at least 100 m. When re-entering the geofence, you might not be within Bluetooth range to your Nuki device. To use this setting, your Nuki device has to be available online.

Which action should Nuki perform as soon as the app finds your device?

The default action for Auto Unlock depends on your selected door fitting. If you have chosen "knob or bar", Auto Unlock will open your door automatically. If you have selected "handle", Auto Unlock will unlock your door. The latch is not pulled. You can customize this locking action.

Use case for “Device found”

Your door has a handle on the outside of your door. So by default Auto Unlock will unlock your door and not pull the latch. Some doors are set to open when the latch is pulled. Then it can be comfortable if Nuki also opens the door.

Device not found

Which action should Nuki perform if the app does not find your device?

You can set a lock action even though the app did not find your Nuki device via Bluetooth. You can choose every possible locking action. However, since there is no Bluetooth connection to your device, you might not be near your door. Please consider this security-relevant aspect.

The default setting is 'no action', but you can select the action you prefer.

Use case for “Device not found”

Your door has a handle on the outside of your door. You want Nuki to unlock your door when you enter the geofence. However, if you don't go home directly, Nuki should lock your door again.

• Device found: "No action"
• Device not found: "Lock"

The radius of the geofence is at least 100 m. When re-entering the geofence, you might not be within Bluetooth range to your Nuki device. To use this setting, your Nuki device has to be available online.

Important notes on changes to the expert settings

In the expert settings, we offer our users a wide range of options. From these, you can choose the ideal settings for your individual use case.
Before making any changes, the Auto Unlock feature should work properly with the default settings. Changes to the expert settings are made at your own risk. If you modify the expert settings, we can only provide limited support.

How to change expert settings?

Simply tap on your device and enter the settings. Go to “Auto Unlock” > “Expert settings”. Here, you can make changes according to your preferences.
