Secure authentication for Nuki Web

This article concerns:
  • Nuki Web

When using Nuki Web, a secure authentication is especially important since data of your devices is synchronized to the server. By choosing a secure password and activating the two-step verification, you protect your Nuki Web account and ensure maximum security.

1) Strong password

Choosing a strong password is especially important for security-relevant applications. We support you in making your password for your Nuki Web account as secure as possible.
To increase the security level, we recommend choosing a password that...

  • is not used for any other application.
  • doesn't include any personal information (e.g. date of birth).
  • includes special characters.
  • includes upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.

2) Two-step verification

To enable two-step verification, log in to your Nuki Web account and select ”Settings” > ”Manage account” > ”Manage two-step verification”.
Confirm the activation by entering your password. You will now receive a QR code. Use an authentication app of your choice (e.g. Google Authenticator or Authy) to scan the code. Whenever you want to log in to your account from an unknown device, we will ask for your password and an additional login code from your authentication app.

Information on two-step verification:

The two-step verification is used in many security-related areas, such as online banking. Two-step verification means you prove your identity via two independent components. This enhances the security of the application.
The one-time passwords generated via an authentication app become invalid after a few seconds or minutes. This effectively fends off attackers who, for example, want to spy on passwords by reading them as they are entered.
